A shipyard with many faces: a family business, a traditional and at the same time progressive shipyard, a research hub, a yachting hotspot, and a 360 degree business – out of a dynamic present to eagerly stride laden with new ideas into the future, without ever losing sight of our traditional values. 6506 is the number of ships A&R has built.
A true wealth of experience, valuable and at the same time cost-effective. A historic shipyard when Georg Abeking & Hendry Rasmussen established the shipyard in Lemwerder in Germany. In 1925 Henry Rasmussen design becomes a commercial success in the USA. In 1930 A&R develops its first-ever minesweeper. 250 to follow. In 1963 Germania VI, the first sailing yacht with a welded aluminum hull is the star of the German Regatta scene and the winner of the Travemuende Week. In 1973 Kalamoun, the milestone for fast motor yachts, with 46kn the fastest diesel motor yacht in the world is introduced.
Herman Schaedla ran the shipyard successfully for 50 years, when Hans Schaedla takes over in 2011 and in 2017 the new XXL production hanger for ships of up to 125m length is put to service.
In 111 years 111 yachts are built. Thanks to the highest ‘Made in Germany’ quality standards, it brings nothing but pure joy to its owner right from the start. And it excels in keeping its high resale value. In many cases, much higher than the original. Read more about the pioneering shipyard at https://abeking.com
